Baking extraordinaire Lily Vanilli hosted a DIY Wedding Cake workshop for Pinterest using fresh and edible flowers as a key ingredient. The event, organised by the team from the Cake & Bake show, saw 20 lucky guests adorn naked cakes with fresh blooms supplied by Liberty.
Lily Vanilli’s delectable creations are quirky, unique, and more often than not they’re decked out in flora. The shots below are her original designs, check out her website for more photos of her work.
Using madeira cake infused with rose at the base, Lily demonstrated how to securely stack and decorate the towers of lightly textured cake.
Each naked treat was covered with special edible flowers, beautiful English cut flowers and a selection of seasonal fruits. We love the way the décor overflows from each tier to contrast with the bare sponge.
Small edible flowers were incorporated into each design; sweet blue and pink cornflowers fit the popular wildflower trend perfectly and are available specially for eating, striking edible viola heads also looked super cute amongst big blousy hydrangea and peonies. We especially love the use of clematis to circle the base of the cake.
The edible flowers were supplied by The Modern Salad Grower.
Pinterest’s guests left with a goodie bag full of treats from the Flowers of Liberty print collection, which includes quintessential pinnys and teapots covered in a floral motif.
