Vocational qualifications vital to land-based and environmental industries
The importance of offering only high quality vocational education to young people has been highlighted by Lantra with calls for NVQ’s to be removed from the approval list.
A BBC report has stated that several vocational qualifications now no longer feature on the approval list, including Fish Husbandry and Horse Care qualifications. Lantra backs the decision to keep the Principal Learning from the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies on the list, and urges this to be seen as a positive alternative to GCSE’s.
Lantra and land-based businesses are keen to ensure that between the ages of 14-19, the education system in England equips young people not only with a broad range of education and skills essential for the world of work, including floristry, but that it also provides opportunities for young people to contextualise their learning and gain experience within the sector, helping them in the longer term to make their further education and career choices.
Lantra is responsible for defining the content of vocational qualifications for the land-based sector, with high quality vocational learing essential, along with general education and enabling schools to provide a broad curriculum which meets the needs of individual learners.
