Sad loss of much loved floristIt is with great sadness that we report the news that much loved and highly respected Irish florist Desi Banks passed away on 30th December 2011.

A fabulous personality, as well as a great designer, judge and champion of the floristry industry, Desi will be greatly missed. Desi, through his business, Sheila's of Dublin, which he ran with wife Heather and son Nigel, was one of Interflora's first Irish members and also worked for the Irish Flower Council for many years.

F&WB’s Publisher, Caroline Marshall-Foster, commented: “I am so sad to hear the news. Desi looked after me at my first Interflora conference and saved me at the Irish party. My prayers go to Desi’s wife Heather and the rest of the family.”

It is always sad when a talented florist leaves us, however this gentlemen was exceptional, he always would have time to speak and over the years has encouraged me in so many ways. he was always there when I travelled to Ireland and also made a huge impact when we all got together at the OLD STYLE INTERFLORA CONFERENCE EVENTS, we always came away feeling better for having met him, even after the Irish party!!!!!. God bless you Desi. x

Thinking of Desi today still gives me a feeling of professionalism with friendship. From my past life as an Interflora florist Desi was truly of the "Old School" but always keen to absorb modern techniques and trends.
I was so lucky to have met him and all his colleaugues in what truly were the GOOD OLD DAYS of Interflora and floristry. Keep smiling down on us Desi x
