Jane-Packer-webIt is with the deepest regret we announce the untimely death of Jane Packer who died last week after a long and courageous battle.

Jane, who started her career in floristry as a teenager and studied at Southwark College, has long been regarded as one of the most ground breaking florists of our time and is probably responsible for more interest in flowers and floristry than any other person.

Commenting on the news, Caroline Marshall–Foster, Publisher of F&WB said: "I first met Jane some 25 years ago and not only was she always incredibly friendly but totally down to earth and above all a brilliant florist.  She was an amazing ambassador for the traditional florist sector and everything she did was to the highest standard - an ethos she carried through to all her team.

"I have huge respect for what she and her husband, Gary Wallis, achieved in creating a brand that was synonymous with quality, style and excellence and I know that the international legacy that is Jane Packer will live on."

A full tribute will appear in F&WB, in the meantime on behalf of the whole industry not only do we extend our love and support to Jane’s family but a public thank you for everything Jane did for the industry.

I have very fond memories of Jane and her team. I worked with her on an M&S Promotion and editorial for IPC Magazines in the 90s and she was a true professional. Part of my time with her was a day at the flower school followed by tea in her own (beautiful) garden. Little did I know that 15 years later I would have 5 flowers shops of my own! Jane - you were an inspiration to many - not least myself. Mike Pilcher

I am shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Jane.
I did my floristry training with her and her team at her school in London.
She was a wonderful person, an inspired florist and an inspirational teacher.
I carry with me to this day her ethos of high stands no matter how big or small the project and regardless of who you are dealing with. I hope that I have passed this on to those who have worked with me.

My thoughts go to her family. She was a wonderful woman and will be sadly missed.

I never had the opportunity to meet Jane but admired her work & style & purchased many of her arrangements everything so beautiful & she has been taken from this world far too young! I am sure her inspiration to so many will live on forever.
Best wishes & sympathy to her family.

I am totally shocked and devastated with this very sad news. Jane had her own show on UK Style and we did an 'At Home' in her house in Maida Vale - she made lime carnations look sensational! She was a lovely warm and kind inspiration to us all! She was also a very dedicated mother. From there I went to train at her school and we met a few more times in the shop...I wish her husband and children my deepest sympathy. She was a true inspiration to everyone who loved flowers and colour! RIP Jane - you will be missed. Ruthe

My sincere sympathy to Gary, Rebe, & Lola. Jane was a gifted and talented florist. Jane shared her intense love of flowers, and all gifts of nature, mosses, grasses, wild flowers in her work. Also with those of us who were privileged to take her classes. I was fortunate to meet Jane several times and studied with her in those early years, when her Flower School was in the basement of her Maida Vale home. Jane leaves a legacy in the world of Flower arrangers that is beyond compare. She was a remarkable, beautiful person.

My deepest sympathy to Gary,Rebe,&Lola. Jane was a most talented florist and caring human being. I was fortunate to be in one of her first classes in her basement in Maida Vale. Then returned to take several more classes. Her love of flowers, mosses, fruits, and hedgerow treasures, was conveyed to all of us, as she gracefully created her arrangements. She inspired me to start a small business, and now 24 years later I still follow her her teachings. We have lost a mentor in world of floristry, her legacey will live on.
