Despite the economic doldrums and the need to save money, I confess I still can’t bring myself to cancel the window cleaner. I don’t care how tough it gets, my shiny bright windows are essential. Not just because I love the sun pouring in but also because they are literally a reflection of our business.

At £60 per month it seems a lot of money, and I can understand why some shops don’t do it regularly, but it is a bit of a shortsighted saving. Because, if a customer sees, or rather can’t see through, a grimy, dusty window there’s a chance they aren’t going to think hugely well about your potential workmanship/skill/professionalism.

First impressions count – which reminds me – must get the front door painted as well!

I do agree that window, outside appearance is so important. In the next town to me there are 10 shops that still have there Christmas trees outside there shops . What image does that conjure up?

windows cleaned every week sometimes twice if there is a lot of spray from the road. Window ledges washed over and the path swept every day before the display goes out it only takes a minute. There is a restaurant above us lots of passing trade outside at night needless to say they stand in our doorway and smoke but looking in the window at the same time. so lights on and all tidy inside. Certainly no room for dead flowers, flies for wasps.

Definitely agree with this article!! First impressions count for everything - and Joanna it's not good to have dead flowers in your window!!! It only takes five seconds to take them out and throw them in the bin. You won't know how many customers you have lost because of this.
